External monitor not detected while using proprietary drivers

My laptop has trouble detecting the external monitor. Both USB C and hdmi connection has no signal. The external monitor works and is detected when using open source nvidia drivers but when I use the proprietary drivers, the display is not detected. The current drivers I’m using is video-hybrid-amd-nvidia-prime.

A detail that might be important is how when I installed the drivers using mhwd, I see errors like nvidia_drm module not found and nvidia module not found. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers through mhwd but it doesn’t really work. I have also installed optimus-manager but that doesn’t seem to help in anyway. Also both X11 and wayland doesn’t change anything for me.

sudo mhwd -li output:

Installed PCI configs:

please post the output of the mandatory

first. without any information it’s impossible to give support

Sorry about that, this is the output from

There’s also a device 3 in graphics but the forum kept throwing 422 errors when I include it in my reply

okay next time you’re posting some copies please use the option of “preformatted text”. it’s the </> function in the reply-posting and paste it inside.
let’s try it and solve you’re problem. post the output of

echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE && glxinfo | grep server

and paste the output.

Hi and welcome,

I think your general issue of

Is the same as in many other threads.
Quite simply - you are using a hybrid profile that by default uses the iGPU (amd), while at the same time you are plugging in your monitor to the dGPU (nvidia).

There are a number of solutions to this … see for example this thread and the responses there

optimus-manager is largely considered trash.
If you need a ‘switcher’ utility then alternatives exist like envycontrol.

But we should probably make sure to deal with whatever mhwd problem you may be having;

So can you please provide the actual logs here?

I can suggest sorting mirrors first as well;

sudo pacman-mirrors -f && sudo pacman -Syu
sudo mhwd -i pci video-hybrid-amd-nvidia-prime

PS.

This guide will also cover things like how to format code etc

I got this as the output

wayland

using envycontrol did fix the issue, though I would like to fix the error logs I got. The log I got from installing the driver was this:

These are not a problem of the driver installation.
They are errors from mkinitcpio.
Probably because you have the realtime kernel installed. Note it only occurs on the rt variant.
Do you have a reason for the realtime kernel? It is usually only used by people like audio engineers.

Nope, was just trying to troubleshoot and just got the rt kernel to see if it would help.
