Hello. I’ve just switched from Ubuntu 20.04LTS. I’m having an issue where I plug in an external monitor, the system recognizes it and extends my workspaces onto it, but the monitor is blank. If I check the display settings it shows the monitor name and the frequency 75hz. If I try to change it to 60hz or unplug the monitor, the system locks up.
This laptop has always had i915 issues since I started using Linux a few years ago. I get massive screen tearing and flashing, and have to add intel_idle.max_cstate=1 to my grub file to make it stop. It’s an i915 error.
i915 0000:00:02.0: [drm] *ERROR* CPU pipe A FIFO underrun
Anyway, new problem. external monitor no worky, crashes system on disconnect. It’s a DP cable going to a USBC to DP dongle from Startech if it matters.

The current DMESG doesn’t have any i915 errors, though I could connect the monitor and pull another log if that would help. I can repeat the crash consistently.
I’ve installed an older kernel (5.4 LTS) using the Manjaro Settings Manager, but I haven’t tried it yet.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Is there a better way to format my code so that it’s easier to read? This came out pretty messy.
I changed down to the 5.4.101-1 LTS kernel, which is the same as I was running with Ubuntu, and am getting the same failure.

I was really hoping rolling back the kernel to stable was going to fix this. Looks like a window manager issue and not the kernel. I used gnome3 on Ubuntu.
