I use a Xiaomi mi notebook pro and run manjaro gnome on it.
I have an external microphone, but when I plug i into the combined audio jack of my notebook, it just gets detected as a headphone and not as a microphone. That leads to no audio output through my normal speakers, and to a not working microphone.
I dualboot win 10 and there the microphone works without any problems.
