Ethernet stop working after change Cat5 to Cat6

Guys a question, I changed my cat5 ethernet cable to cat6a.

Now my manjaro does not detect the wired network, it tries to connect and then says connection disabled, so it stays in a loop, I have no internet.

but it only happens in manjaro, when I switch to windows 11 it works perfect, there if I have network and everything.

in manjaro I can’t even access my default gateway to see my router.

As I write this, this was apparently solved after installing these libraries.

I get this popup each minute

I tried to change the speed of the connection with several, from 100 to 2.5, put it in full duplex, including giving it the manual ipv4 dhcp but nothing. I don’t understand what is wrong with my linux

I even enabled a module that said IGC according to llama3-coder bot xD

but nothings works

Hello @Milor123

I’m rather surprised that you have 2 Network Managers running. Once dhcpcd and once NetworkManager. Now both services are fighting for the network device and then both give up.

systemctl status dhcpcd NetworkManager

Well dhcpcd is inactive, but something/someone triggered it. VMware probably or you yourself?

I use virtIO and vmware, I am not sure, probably reading yesterday i try use commands with dhcpcd.

Then it is not there. It cannot connect when no connection profile is set. :man_shrugging:

I dont understand, I cant acces to my router, but in windows11 works, what should stay bad? T_T

and what I’m going to tell you is even stranger, yesterday I gave up with this problem, and I was given to delete the network adapter, then linux did not know what he did but it worked, and I thought the problem had been solved, but today in the morning I turned on my computer, the surprise was that I was again without internet

My brother uses a tool that lights from 1 to 9 or 8, and they all light up fine.

The cables that we put were cat6 from the modem to the router and from the router to the pc, and all the wifi devices that connect to the router have internet, when I go to windows from my pc, I also have internet, I don’t understand what is going on. Is there something wrong with the cables?

my journal -b output:
https://pastecode.io/s/6ufgmip9

I can only assume that you have deactivated the NetworkManager and then entered dhcpcd in the terminal. A connection is then temporarily negotiated and established bypassing the NetworkManager. When you restart, there is no Internet.

Again… the NetworkManager needs a profile for the ethernet connection just like your wifi connection.

NetworkManager? but its looks good not?

the wifi works but when It delete and create again the ethernet connection, it keep in a loop connection, [Connected - Disconnected] each 10 seconds.
What should i do bro?

Check what is happening there…

Open a terminal and run:

journalctl -f -u NetworkManager.service --no-hostname

Open a second terminal and run:

sudo nmcli general logging level DEBUG

Now the journal should be more detailed about where it hangs/loops.

Revert the level at the end:

sudo nmcli general logging level INFO
journalctl -f -u NetworkManager.service --no-hostname

That seems to be the stopper… auto-negotiation seems not to work properly?

Auto-negotiation starts at 100 Mbps, then works up from there (in any modern Ethernet device). So it seems it didn’t even get very far.

What link connect speed are you getting in Win11? And you can send and receive at around 250MB/s?

Am I missing that you tried another cable?

Indeed, this should have been the first thing.

a) Swap out your cat6x cable(s) for the cat5x cable(s) you were using previously. See if your network then works as expected.

b) Swap out your cat6x cables one by one and test for any improvement after each cable is swapped out. Naturally, you will need to have another cable available.

Another possibility (using cat6x).

  • Disable auto-negotiation
  • Set it to instead start with a higher 1000Mb/s link speed.
  • Cross fingers.

Good luck.

Windows 11 Speed with the cable that linux dont work:

Manjaro internet manager, all settings tried and nothing works

Windows configuration:

Nothings work guys :/, what should i do guys ?

The Cable is broken, use a different one. You can clearly see that Windows also only set the Ethernet device to 100 Mbps, which is only used if there is no other speed available.

You did not test the cable, instead you did a speed test of your nvme drive. You should read the documentation on how to use this program. Hint, you need to pick a Network Volume and not c:.
