Ethernet lost after last update

Hi,
I usually connect to a network with wifi. But I found that the ethernet setting was lost just now either wire connected to the adapter, and the ethernet does not work. I updated the system days ago. Before updating, the ethernet works fine.
Is there something wrong?

Hi @3xpert, and welcome!

  1. In order to possibly be of ANY assistance, there’s more information needed. Please see How to provide good information.

  2. It very quickly sounds like some kind of driver error/problem. So are you sure the kernel is updated? Or still supported?

Hope you manage.

Thanks, @Mirdarthos !
How can I know if the driver still supported? I check the hardware settings in manjaro setting, it shows the driver installed.

Could you please install both 5.4 and 5.10 LTS (Long Time Support) and see which one of the two troubles you least?

If one of those kernels works, please post another full inxi as the 5.13 is the Stable Development branch of the kernel and not an LTS one?

Thank you, @Fabby!
As your guide, I reinstall kernel 5.10 LTS, the system auto-install kernel 5.12.19-2, and chose kernel 5.12.19-2 to run manjaro, the wire connect setting comes back .
Does the new kernel no longer support the type rtl8618 ethernet card or is it just a bug?

Kernel 5.12 is EOL so please install both 5.4 and 5.10 LTS (Long Time Support) and see which one of the two troubles you least and remove 5.12.

:sob:

Very probably.

So, I used the Manjaro setting manager to chose the kernel version 510LTS as there was no option of kernel version 54:

  • the system auto-installed the kernel version 512 and set it to be the default kernel.
  • However, I’ve installed 54 manual and removed 512.
    Thanks, @Fabby!

P.S. 510LTS also causes wired settings lost, but 5.4 doesn’t

When updating the kernel to 5.13, and install linux513-r8168, the ethernet works fine.

When searching for r8168 using pamac, you’lll notice there is a -dkms package:

pamac search r8168
[...]
r8168-dkms 8.048.03-1 AUR
A kernel module for Realtek 8168 network cards (DKMS version)
[...]

So it’s recommended you use that package, the dkms one, for your network card, seeing as the dkms version would persist across kernel rebuilds, where I doubt the other packages would.

Thanks!
I’ve installed r8168-dkms, and it works.
