Ethernet cannot make connection to internet (Wifi can)

Hi all

I have a (pretty) recent install of Manjaro with i3wm. Today I tried to connect via cable because the wifi signal in my room is not so great, but to my dissapointment, I could not connect to the internet. This might be the first time I try to connect via ethernet so it might have never worked in the first place.

Some things I have ruled out:

  • It is not a router problem, connecting another (windows that is) pc to the port works fine
  • It is most probably a physical problem in my laptops ethernet port, since this did work on previous OS’es
  • My wifi does work and can connect to the internet normally

I will give some info commands, keep in mind I’m switching from wifi to ethernet and back to do these commands and write here. To clarify, pinging to 8.8.8.8 does not work.

Greetings

Can you ping your router, at least?

This is indeed right! Turns out my ethernet configuration’s ipv4 settings were set to manual, with a set ip adress and default gateway. Both made no sense… I have set it to DHCP and everything seems to be working now!

Thanks a bunch!
