Error "org.bluez.Error.Failed br-connection-aborted-by-local" whenever trying to connect to headphones

As said above, bluetooth fails to connect to a pair of Sony WF-C700N headphones that work just fine in my phone and windows partition. So far I’ve tried restarting the service, reinstalling bluez, connecting through bluetoothctl, etc.

Error message:

I really can’t find any info online about this error. Might it just be that the headphones are refusing to work with Linux? They’ve worked intermittently in the past (sorry I can’t specify more as to when or how). Any help would be much appreciated

Have you pulseaudio-bluetooth installed?

Have you fully updated your system?

Have you tried other kernels?

Hey, thanks for the response. pulseaudio-bluetooth wasn’t installed, but that hasn’t solved the issue after an install and reboot. System is up to date, and I haven’t tried other kernels. Should I try downgrading? I’m scared of that breaking other things in my system. If so, to which kernel should I try downgrading?

This is pretty safe, especially if you just install other kernels in addition, at grub’s boot menu you can decide in which one you intend to boot, no need to remove the current one.

Using other kernels is not up- or downgrading, they can co-exist and changing kernels is not deemed to be up- or downgrading as they representative different strategies.

You could try kernel linux 6.5 for example.

Thanks a ton for the info! Unfortunately changing the kernel to 6.5 hasn’t solved the issue.
Any other ideas?

I think you know your system better than anybody else, so to find the issue on your system I would recommend just to study the wiki and compare your system with what is recommended.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/bluetooth

It could be also linked to the fact you are dual booting, Windoze not always clearly shuts down, this could sometimes even affect network and bluetoooth.

I’ve re-paired and it seems to work for now. So far reading through https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/bluetooth#Dual_boot_pairing it seems like this might be the problem that I’m running into. I’ll look into it and update the thread. Thanks a ton for the help!
