Error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies) :: installing nvidia-utils (495.44-6) breaks dependency ‘nvidia-utils=470.63.01’ required by linux513-nvidia Unable to update or to add new kernels

I have a very similar problem to an old topic with the same error message

Howether when i try to add a new kernel, i get the exact same message, should i pacman -r the package and reinstall it after the update is done ?

What about posting some information ?

Kernel 5.13 has been EOL for some time now. Change that first of everything, reboot and see if the problem persists. And use mhwd-kernel to do so, not pacman, as it does an extremely good job of it.

when i try to change my kernel it gives me the same error.

Then you’d have to boot with a live ISO and do it from a chroot environment.

okay i will try that, any precaution i can take before i do ?

Don’t think so.

Just be sure that while you’re busy, you don’t assume something, because when you change into the chroot environment you are root on your actual system, so it’s extremely important to be careful then because any- and everything you do will have lasting consequences.

They may not need to do the chroot thing. When I had a similar issue a few years ago, the steps I took were:

  1. Uninstall the nvidia driver,
  2. Install new kernel
  3. Uninstall old kernel
  4. Install nvidia driver.
  5. Reboot to start using the new kernel & nvidia driver.

*I did no rebooting between steps 1-4, I also did not use pacman or a package manger to do this, I used manjaro settings manager tool to handle it.

*If I remember correctly, cuda if installed may need to be uninstalled for these steps to work (reinstall it afterwards if needed).

This issue is actually hit or miss. By that install from the last stable ISO that has the 5.13 kernel and try to update once on the desktop and one time ISO will update without issue and the next time it won’t because of the above. Users that want to install Manjaro right now need to make sure they grab the release candidate that’s out.

May being they key phrase…

I’m assuming “many” should be “may”.

That might very well be true. It might also not. I prefer to go with the route I’m familiar with and know will work, and from what I can see, chroot will work.

Okay si managed to change the kernel without the chroot, i made back ups just to be sure, i’m on 5.10 now so i’ll try to update see if it goes through ( i didnt have a live iso on hand and since everything is backed up i took the risk, not saying it was the right thing to do)

Great!

Do updates with pamac and not pacman for the same reason I recommended mhwd-kernel.
