Error: Attempt To Read Or Write Outside Of Partition

Not sure where to post this. Feel free to move this to an appropriate location

The title is the error that I see every time I boot my laptop.
I used this iso at installation: manjaro-kde-24.0-240513-linux69.iso
Is this something that I can ignore or is it something that could eventually bite me?

An attempt to give some relevant system info. Let me know if I should provide more.

Perhaps logs might reveal something;

journalctl --boot=-1 --priority=3 --catalog --no-pager

I vaguely recall seeing a similar error mentioned in forums a few years ago, but I’m uncertain of the significance. It might be something similar to when a wrong memory range is accessed; but this is only a guess, at best.

Did you check it for errors after download?

I suspect you have chosen to use xfs filesystem - did you?

@linux-aarhus Yes I chose XFS, because I was running away from BTRFS.
EXT4 might be a better choice, do yo think?

I cannot say - I only discovered myself that Calamares and xfs appears to have issues - the swap partition will be misaligned - it should not have any impact when in use - not that I have seen - except for the annoying message.

If one were to dive further into the matter the Calamares dependency of kde partition manager is the likely culprit.

That said I am still not sure where the blame is rooted.

You might benefit from a BIOS update and/or a different kernel. Whether or not that will change anything remains to be seen.

Could you also post the full command output of:

inxi --admin --verbosity=8 --filter --no-host --width

Here it is:

Maybe when a new iso is released, I can try Ext4.

It’s also possible that your machine is just too new and Linux (generally) hasn’t caught up yet; though, that’s only a guess. You have the latest kernel, so that’s good. Otherwise, nothing really jumps out screaming that there’s any problem with the system; apart from the repeating ACPI BIOS Error which I don’t know specifically how to diagnose.

EXT4 is generally a safe choice; it’s the most widely supported filesystem.

I tend to think that also. When I was shopping for a new laptop, I originally had selected a 12th gen intel machine, got this 11th gen laptop at a discount because where I bought it, they couldn’t locate the box it came with, and it was the only one in the store. After I bought it, I began to read how people were experiencing difficulties with intel’s 12th gen machines.
I am somewhat ambivalent about Ext4 because I have experienced bitrot with ext4. So finally, I’ll stay with Xfs and keep fingers, toes and feet crossed.
Looking at the error, it tells me that the attempt to read or write outside of a partition was detected and stopped. Will that continue to be stopped in the future? Time will tell.
