Just curious, how old is the laptop? Secondly does the dvd work with other OS’s?

well for a possibly 9 year old DVD drive chances are its seen better days, laptop DVD drives are very finicky and so are those DVDs, the writable kind dont last that long if you dont backup often onto new discs.

if the recognition of the DVD is the issue, you can check if it works in windows?

Its old now I think I will look at a better at a better newer model, thank you for your help, oh it worked in windows and my fist try of manjaro but not now in manjaro gnome.

Thanks for getting back, it worked before this version of manjaro gnome and it worked in windows. I will look at getting a better laptop more worthy and maybe an external drive that could work with manjaro and thanks again for the help.

external DVD drive should serve you just fine

another 3rd gen laptop user here, got rid of the DVD drive bay to install a second drive
