"Dummy sound" on Lenovo Thinkpad P1 Gen 3

Hello everyone,

I have just setup my new Lenovo Thinkpad P1 Gen 3 with MANJARO:

Kernel: 5.8.16-2-MANJARO x86_64 bits: 64
Desktop: GNOME 3.36.6 Distro: Manjaro Linux

I am currently facing issues with my speakers are I have no sound output. The output from inxi -F shows the following for the Audio part.

Audio:
Device-1: Intel Comet Lake PCH cAVS driver: sof-audio-pci
Sound Server: ALSA v: k5.8.16-2-MANJARO

I have found similar issues but with a different drivers. Any idea about where to start debugging?
I have intermediate Linux knowledge but I am not an expert.

Thank you for your time and help!

End-of-life kernel, you should switch to 5.4 or 5.10.

As for the audio, I suggest you try installing sof-firmware, and then rebooting. If that doesn’t work, post the output of sudo dmesg | egrep -i '(hda|snd|sof|audio|alsa)'.

Thank you very much for your answer!
I have now downgraded my kernel to 5.4 and everything works fine!

I was a little bit afraid to upgrade to 5.10 as I saw some issues with NVIDIA drivers for 5.4 + kernels.

Really appreciated your speedy reply, have a nice day!

What’s the output of inxi -Aazy now?

The Internal digital array microphones may not work with kernel v5.4 as it does not support the new ‘sof-firmware’
