Auch “CUPS” verwendete ich noch nie.
Schau doch mal unter /opt/ nach
ls -al /opt/
könnte auch hier liegen…

Habe es nicht installiert daher alle Angaben ohne Gewähr

the .rpm package that is used here
contains two (2) source files
one got compiled - and also installed:
the epson-inkjet-printer-201211w-1.0.1.tar.gz
the other was not:
epson-inkjet-printer-filter-1.0.2.tar.gz
it’s a bit more complex than it seems, apparently
I haven’t looked at the original PKGBUILD and how it was changed/adapted by the patch.
My guess is that the filter doesn’t change and the man who provided the patch therefore didn’t need to care about it, since it was already present for him.
But when you build and install from scratch - the filter is now missing, doesn’t get compiled.
Ich finde sowas an verschiedensten Stellen im Dateisystem.
Alles wurde heute “verändert” , und ich kann nicht nachvollziehen wo es (nicht) hingehört.
Ich bin einfach gestrickt und kann mich da leider nicht rein denken.
Ich habe hier eine Wand voll Eurorack mit hunderten von Kabeln und Potentiometern es ist leicht zu bedienen (für mich)…

Wie schon oben erwähnt, kein Betreuer des Paketes und somit bewegen wir uns alle auf sehr dünnem Eis 
aber schau doch weiter … was sagt:
ls -al /opt/epson-inkjet-printer-201211w/usr/lib/cups/filter/epson*
bei mir schaut es so aus:

Ich vermute das ist die compilierte Datei, die du bzw. dein System benötigt.
Du kannst versuchen sie zu kopieren (mit root rechten) oder mittels “link” drauf verweisen.
ln -s /opt/epson-inkjet-printer-201211w/usr/lib/cups/filter/epson_inkjet_printer_filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/epson_inkjet_printer_filter
Mein Drucker ist ein simples Standardmodell , warum nur ist es so schwer ?
Ich stelle die Frage anders: Wird überhaupt ein Treiber benötigt? Ich habe den Drucker nicht! Gut möglich das es auch ohne über cups läuft?!
dort ist nur der Quellcode (der noch compiliert werden muß) der dorthin kopiert wurde beim Installieren des aus dem PKGBUILD erstellten Paketes
Da ist kein Filter, nur der Code um ihn zu erstellen.
Ich würde ja eine der von Epson auf deren Website runterladbaren fertig compilierten .deb oder .rpm Dateien nehmen,
die händisch auspacken
und die Sachen an die richtige Stelle kopieren.
Oder halt nur den Filter, in dem Fall - der Rest ist ja nun da.
Aber das Procedere dem OP zu verklickern … 
… kann man auch ein PKGBUILD machen für - weil das ja ohne nicht lege artis ist
wär mir aber ganz eindeutig zuviel Arbeit

Hab es mal eben installiert. Dann findet CUPS die Datei.
