DP hot-replug never re-trains link on X11

  • Driver: [575.xx], proprietary, nvidia-drm.modeset=1, fbdev=1
  • Kernel: [6.x.x-arch], X11 (no display manager issues — bspwm/sxhkd)
  • Monitors: 2× 2560x1440@180Hz over DisplayPort (DP-0, DP-2)

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Boot to X11, both monitors active at 2560x1440@180
  2. Unplug the DP cable of one monitor
  3. Wait ~10 s, plug it back in

Expected: link re-trains, signal returns.

Actual: monitor stays black indefinitely. Signal only returns after a forced modeset:
xrandr --output DP-0 --off && xrandr --output DP-0 --auto

Diagnostics performed:

  • udevadm monitor --kernel --udev during replug: zero events emitted — the hotplug never reaches userspace, so no udev-based workaround is possible
  • Reproduces with and without ConnectedMonitor/CustomEDID pinning in xorg.conf

In a community oriented software project like Manjaro, we want to provide quality information. Therefore we expect everybody to verify their proposals or make it clear that it’s a guess. That’s why a post generated by an AI and not verified by the poster has to be considered inaccurate…

If you verified a proposal from an AI yourself then you can also write the post in your own words.
