Dolphin bookmarks - not accepting a context input in the menu

I’m curious (and seriously doubt) that anyone might have this issue. It appears to be another ghost in the machine.

I have Dolphin set up nicely, using Places and quite a number of bookmarks.

So to start with, just open a random folder - or dual pane two folders, then save them as bookmarks.

Then try to delete those bookmarks via context click - it usually pulls up a context menu… but it’s not something I do every day and I just realised that I cannot do this - I have to open an editor to remove a bookmark.

The context click simply opens the bookmark… there’s no context menu.

Troubleshooting:

  1. Tested with an ISO - behaves as expected, not a default issue.
  2. Created a new user ‘nOOb’ and verified - bug exists with new user.

So, given that the issue doesn’t lie with the USER files, how can I figure this out?

So who’s up for a challenge? This is a bit weird…

No - from the Live USB session I verified this, you can right click and remove a single bookmark…

Can you not do this either?

Indeed, it doesn’t work here either.

So this is likely an issue with Installed Manjaro (not present on the ISO)!

I’ve been trying to figure it out for the last 4 hours already

If the functionality is present on the ISO - it should be present on the installed system.

However - it may be an issue which only appears after the system is updated and as such it becomes an upstream issue.

  • I don’t even have the edit bookmark …
  • I am thinking the bookmark functionality is related to a functional baloo indexer …
  • Nope - not that …

Edit Bookmarks is an option available in the settings if you edit your toolbar - but that’s interesting, now I’m tempted to install to a virtual machine from the ISO and see how that goes.

Not even that …

Stable Manjaro on bare-metal, synced with release on 24-12-16 …

Syncing keditbookmarks package gave me the Edit Bookmarks… command which opens the Bookmark Editor (possibly caused by the minimal edition used).

The Bookmarks Editor - at first glance - does not add context action to the Go → Bookmarks menu items.

After looking around - I don’t think the Bookmarks menu listing bookmarked items is intended to provide a context-click.

Yes, I looked at that thread - then today mentioned it to a fedora user who argued with me - then sent this screenshot today:
Fedora40

Strange that it would only work on Manjaro’s live session… or fresh install.

Indeed - still pointing to some kind of regression - but where … ?

The subseqent missing functionality points to something happening during the first system sync.

This seems to work as expected for me. Choosing Add Bookmark creates the expected bookmark of whatever directory is current in Dolphin.

At the risk of invoking a Troubleshooting 101 scenario, have you tested this in a fresh User account?

Creating a fresh account doesn’t change things, but the live USB session - you can right click a bookmark and get the delete option.

I’m booting it up again as we speak…
Live

However, if you go into the Bookmark menu, hover a bookmark, you should be able to RIGHT click to call up the context, but on my install, right click does the same as left.

I can’t install this ISO - I got the same message this time as last, maybe I should get a fresh one.

All I have is Edit Bookmarks which opens the Bookmark Editor – from there, I can right-click any previously created bookmark and Delete. Deactivated my Global Panel extension in case that might have interfered, but still remains as described.

I’ve never known there to be a secondary context menu, but I have to admit, it seems much more intuitive for there to be one.

I just booted in a vm the latest full ISO from 24-12-16.

The context action on a bookmark - Go → Bookmarks - does not exist.

The keditbookmarks package is not available on live ISO.

Syncing the package and reopeing dolphin makes it possible to edit bookmarks - still no context menu.

Likely some version differences between Fedora and Manjaro.

Haha it looks as if you never will.

  • This worked with the previous Manjaro-kde-24.1 ISO, screenshot above - also with Fedora 40 (likely an older Plasma)…
  • manjaro-kde-24.2.1-241216-linux612: this function is removed.
  • RMB and LMB now have the same behaviour, the context is not available… so you have to open the editor…

If you do this often, I suggest you go into the keyboard settings (Dolphin) pressing CtrlAlt,

Search ‘edit’ to find ‘Bookmark Editor’ and set a shortcut. I set CtrlAltB for now… because CtrlB adds a bookmark it seems an easy one to remember…

So this is indeed a regression of sorts - a very intuitive interaction has disappeared.

So the solution is to stick the editor icon next to it (and make it a pencil, because that icon sucked).

For the old-schoolers maybe

Méven Car identifies this as a ‘small bug’;
but no specifics were given in the following article:

It seems to not be a new discovery. Still, if the context works on Fedora, that suggests someone has found a quick fix at some point.

I simply added Bookmarks to the Dolphin toolbar; it saves an unnecessary click and hover.
