Hi everyone, I’m using Manjaro for gaming on Steam. I decided to buy an 8bitdo Ultimate gamepad with a gyroscope and receiver. But I’m not sure if it will work fully on Linux via the receiver. Will Steam recognize it as an 8bitdo gamepad and allow configuring the gyroscope? Maybe someone has the same gamepad and has experience using it on Linux?
Steam is usually pretty good about things that arent cheap knockoffs.
For whatever its worth - there are also 2 related packages in the AUR…
I have 8bitdo Ultimate 2.4G PC – works out of the box
I didn’t tried myself, but gyroscope works only in Switch mode (Steam will see controller as Switch Pro). It also swap buttons and make triggers digital like in original Switch pads – for me it’s big downsize for small feature. And probably game must support this feature to use it…
Configuration – Steam allows only for configuring dead zones like in any other controller but anything more. Most games also should have basic settings for controllers which also works (but need Steam Input disabled). Also there is no official (or unofficial which I know) software for configuring 8bitdo. For setup profiles and other controller specific features you need Windows or Android with officiall app.
No need – Steam provides these udev rules itself
Yes, you are right. The gamepad works fully, including the gyro
