Or would that conflict with the Vendors who currently have deals with Manjaro?
I think you answered your own question, and the forum is a technical forum, mostly for support, and there are rules about not talking about product recommendation so I don’t know, probably frowned upon.
@omano worded it very well, @tracyanne. We do indeed not support hardware recommendations on this forum apart from the hardware offerings of our commercial partners.
Of course, one could always discuss such things in the Member Hub.
No worries.
The issue I was looking at solving is the number of people who seem to have hardware issues elated to computers built for Windows, and those who ask question like https://forum.manjaro.org/t/looking-for-mini-pc-dont-want-crud-opinions/165061/39 that would be mitigated if they were aware (which they seem notto be) of the linux Hardware vendors. So it did seem like a support issue, given that question.
Discussing it in the Members Hub doesn’t reach people who are new members and or low volume posters, or those merely browsing.
But yeah I assumed there might be an issue regarding companies that have deals with Manjaro.
Well, as I recall, we used to have a dedicated category for hardware-related issues — this was in the early days of (this iteration of) the forum — but the category was then consolidated into the generic Support category in order to reduce the number of categories, and a hardware tag was added instead.
One of the problems however — not just then but also now — is when people start asking for hardware recommendations, and given that we’re partnered up with hardware vendors, it would be unprofessional and even treacherous to have our members start recommending — emphasis on “recommending” — hardware from other vendors than Manjaro’s partners.
Furthermore, hardware is very often a matter of personal preference, and as such, discussions about which hardware to buy will then just as often lead to endless threads due to conflicting opinions.
Yeah, I do realise that. Which is why I wasn’t actually talking about a Discussion area, just an information area.
…and yes I completely understand why this can not happen. Indeed it was why I phased my enquiry as i did.
My foot’s numb.
Don’t worry, it’ll get better again in about 10 minutes. And that first-degree burn will go away as well in about a day or so.
