Can I install the dig utility without installing a full BIND with it? extra/bind will include dig, but I’d rather avoid the server if I don’t intend to use it. Regards

You cannot.
Use the drill command - it is equivalent of dig - if your fingers have a hard time with drill - create an alias - you won’t notice the difference.
