Display fails to return after monitor turns off

Continuing the discussion from Display returning irregular (or not at all) after screen turns off:

@Aragorn After applying the 2025-05-14 update for Plasma 6.3.5, I am still having the same issue specified in the OP: using Wayland, when my monitor turns off for any reason, whether on lock screen or on my desktop, the display will fail to come back up: monitor does not detect a connection and screen remains blank, monitor will go back to auto-sleep. I have to restart [the VM] for it to come back up.

Any thoughts on next steps or what I can check? I’m not really sure where to start if the Plasma update didn’t address it…

I had a similar issue. Downgrading the drivers fixed it, although I realize that’s not ideal.

@jmac - thank you so much for hitting me up on this thread. It has been very hard to search for for this topic around the interwebs.
So… Downgrading the nvidia drivers is the present answer? Yuck, but c’est la vie! I’ll give it a go probably this weekend.

downgraded the Nvidia drivers by installing ‘nvidia-470xx-dkms’ and ‘nvidia-470xx-utils’

OK, So downgrading to nvidia-470xx did not work for me. In fact, neither the open source nor 470 drivers would even turn on the display on reboot. I had to go with the proprietary latest ones. Why… Who knows.

But I finally had someone jog my brain! I never thought to try switching TTY. Lo-and-behold! Ctr+Alt+F3 brought back my screen! F1, F2, F4 didn’t do it, but F3 was it. But note, I have to switch to one of the other TTYs and then switch back to F3 for it to bring back the display.
