I have weird issue the laptop display cuts in half horizontally when I set the refresh rate to 60Hz. In 144Hr everything is okay. Here is info about the laptop:

Worth to mention that this is X11 specific issue. There is no problem with Wayland but Wayland is not stable for me for now. I have decided to go with X11.

Um, if it works perfectly fine at 144 Hz, then why would you set it to 60 Hz? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

This laptop is a beast and consumes too much power. Sometimes I want to work in places far from power cord. In those cases, I try to save power as much as possible to last more.

I don’t think the display frequency has anything to do with the power consumption. :man_shrugging:

I think it makes difference) Also forgot to mention that this is X11 specific issue. In wayland everything is okay. But for me wayland is not stable (random crashes).

Well, then I would recommend waiting until Wayland stabilizes — it’s supposedly better in the next version — and simply using 144 Hz for now.

Obviously, if your laptop can handle 144 Hz, then it was designed to operate at that frequency, and then that is how you should use it.

Thanks for the help! Appreciate it. In most cases it does not bother me. I posted because I thought somebody has experienced it before and would help. Moreover it would help for the future visitors.

I understand. So far I haven’t seen anyone mention this kind of issue, but then again, most people here use their monitors at the factory-prescribed refresh frequencies, and that is what I would recommend. Modern hardware is quite sensitive to operation out of the prescribed ranges.

Sorry I have one more issue. My touchpad gestures are not working (but working perfectly in wayland). Like 3-finger swipe switch between virtual desktops. And 4-finger swipe opens Overview. Like I said I am in the X11.

Or do you want me to open new issue ?

Yes, please open a new thread about that. It’s a lot easier to help people if they can stick to one issue per thread.
