Desktop working on half of the second monitor

Hello all,

I am a long time user of Manjaro and today I have stumbled on a weird behavior. I have installed from fresh after borking my system.

Here is the output of `inxi -Fza’ command which I have seen it is most often requested on these kinds of questions.

$ inxi -Fza

I have two monitors and two gpus. One is Nvidia (which is currently in use for my linux system) and the other is an AMD gpu that is passed through to a windows 11 vm which I have setup.

My problem is that each time at boot I get the following black region on my left monitor (the non primary one):

On that region I can drag a window that I open but I cannot right click on the black region (no menu appears. I can make this go away by two methods:

  1. logoff and then login again
  2. go to display settings and disable then enable the left display (the secondary one).

The VM I mentioned is using the left display on the HDMI port and when I switch to it, it works fine. I don’t think I have modified anything relevant to the displays but this just started to happen.

What can I do to solve this?

I suspect that the problem is related to two different GPUs (AMD and Nvidia driver), both are in the conflict.

but how can they be in conflict if the amd one is blacklisted at boot? you can see it uses the vfio driver. basically that is only active when I turn on the vm

What is output of xrandr --properties ?

  • Try Nvidia GPU connects with two monitors, what happens then?

I am a little confused, what does VM have to do with the left monitor? The VM runs on Linux system that controls two monitors.

The left monitor has several inputs: DP and hdmi. DP is used for Linux and HDMI is active when I turn on the VM. So at boot time only DP is used, together with the input from the right monitor.

In addition I am adding the relevant output from lspci -nv:

here is an interesting update:

This problem I now notice only happens after a shutdown! I turn the PC on, login and get the black region on the second monitor! If I then restart (or just logoff then logon) I return to normal operation without other actions!

What could this be?
