Desktop/GUI suddenly zoomed and panning

Howdy,
my friend is running Manjaro with KDE/Plasma on AMD graphics.
A few days ago her desktop suddenly appeared zoomed to just over twice the normal size and moving the cursor to the edges pans the desktop under the viewport that the monitor now is. This makes operating the system quite cumbersome ofcourse.
All monitor/desktop settings in the GUI system settings and info from commandline tools seem to be just fine (1920x1080@60Hz, scale 100% etc.)
It’s a Wayland system, so I tried (re)setting the scale with kscreen-doctor to no avail. The display reacts to setting the scale to 200% or 50% (for example) by using either the GUI or kscreen more or less as expected with larger/smaller fonts and windows, but the desktop stays too big with panning needed to see all of it.
Tried finicking with settings on the monitor, dis/reconnecting it, rebooting after that etc. - nothing.
Tried all sorts of Ctrl+mousewheel, Alt+mousewheel etc. (Shift, Windoze, AltGr) with no effect (as would be expected, but hey)

From what I read Wayland actually doesn’t even seem to support a “panning” function, so kscreen-doctor doesn’t have options for that either (like xrandr did).
So where the heck is the zoom and panning coming from to begin with?

Display drivers (amdgpu)? And how did it suddenly came to be? Accidental hotkey? Update gone wild? Can’t seem to find anything that makes sense…

At a loss here. Any ideas very welcome! TIA
Cheers,
Leny

This does rather sound like an effect - you didn’t mention if you checked (search ‘effect’ in kwin)…

  • Zoom
  • Magnifier

With the new Plasma, these are also set with Meta shortcuts - so un-check those first.

Also, checking with a new USER is a good way to verify it isn’t just USER settings.

Thanks Ben,
that put me on the right track. Seems there even is a standard shortcut to get this effect: ctrl+meta+mousewheel

All my searches with Desktop, Zoom, Panning, KDE, Plasma, whatever didn’t find this, but searching for “kwin effects zoom” did in the end.

Thanks again!
Cheers, Leny
