DELL XPS L702x - Some USB Ports do not work although detected

Hi everyone,

I’m new here - recently switched to Manjaro from antix and Pop_OS.

I’ve been looking around for this issue but could not find it anywhere, hence I’ve registered and am posting here some details in case anyone can help (I hope so, it seems to be a very friendly, knowledgeable community).

The problem:
Although my USB ports are all recognised with no issues in lsusb, when connecting anything to those ports… well, whatever I connect it does not work, although it is identified.
For example, connecting a USB stick to one port works correctly, and I can mount it too.
Connecting the same USB stick to another port does not work, although it shows in lsusb.
The laptop is a DELL XPSL702x with 3 USB ports. All 3 ports work fine on Windows.

lsusb information below - in this example, the devices connected at Bus 004 Device 005 and Bus 003 Device 002 are not recognised. However, if I connect them to Bus 002 Device 003 they work fine.

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0951:1666 Kingston Technology DataTraveler 100 G3/G4/SE9 G2/50 Kyson
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 2357:011e TP-Link AC600 wireless Realtek RTL8811AU [Archer T2U Nano]
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 004 Device 005: ID 090c:1000 Silicon Motion, Inc. - Taiwan (formerly Feiya Technology Corp.) Flash Drive

Here is the inxi -zv8 output

Hopefully I formatted everything correctly.

Thanks to any kind souls who can help

Check that the USB ports in question actually support the types of devices you connected.

Thank you!

How can I do that? Those ports do support the devices connected on Windows.

Check your documentation and compare the USB port capabilities match those of the devices.

example only:

A device may support USB3.2 and not USB2, or vice versa.

Otherwise, I have nothing else to add.

Good luck.

Thanks for trying soundofthunder.

Yes, those ports support the USB devices I connected to them, as they work on Windows.

I’ll keep looking around, but will leave this post open in case anyone else has had similar experiences.

Thanks anyway!

try different kernels, the 5.15 and the 6.1 and test with each of them… the 6.10 you currently have is end of life anyway…

Agreed. 6.6 should also be a good candidate. Those newer HWE kernels might be missing the necessary drivers and config. for your machine, it being from circa 2012. You may have a better experience sticking to LTS kernels.
