Dell XPS 15 9500 AX500-DBS wifi issue

Hi,

I have tried installing the Manjaro 21 on my new Dell XPS 15 9500 with the Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX500-DBS WIFI module.

I noticed when I started the Live usb with proprietary drivers, it loads up the wifi driver and works absolutely fine.

But after the installation, the wifi is not recognized correctly and not usable.
In the device list, it looks like it is recognized as a Qualcomm Device 1101.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
AJ

Just tried this solution, no luck !

That’s because it uses a Qualcomm Atheros chipset.

Have you tried the 5.12 kernel?

Nope, I have not tried 5.12 kernel.

But I noticed, when start Live USB with proprietary drivers, WiFi seemed to be working.

Just installed 5.12 kernel, no change still same issue.

Can you boot from the live USB and check the output of the following to compare with the installed system?

inxi -Nazy
lspci | grep Network

Hello!

I just recently had a VERY similar problem on my i9 XPS15, where the installer worked, but wifi didn’t work anymore after install.

I was able to identify issues with the ath11k module via dmesg-
sudo dmesg | grep -i ath11k

This showed that I had memory page_alloc errors. I then added ‘memmap=12M\$20M’ to my /etc/default/grub, and regenerated it.

My wifi card then worked nominally.

@golden_demise Thanks for suggestion.

Just tried that trick, and it worked right away.

Many thanks again @Yochanan and @golden_demise, much appreciated

I really wish they would fix that firmware bug.

Man I was disappointed when I found out my XPS came with an Atheros chipset.
