DaVinci_Resolve_Studio_19.0.3_Linux.zip ... FAILED

Hi All,

One of my machines upgraded to DRS 1903 and the other failed with the message below. I usually wait for the next release, but find it strange that this version upgraded fine on my HP Z840 and failed on my HP Z820. I have been using DRS on my Z820 for over 5 years. Any thoughts?

All responses are greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Gerry

We are pleased to announce the release of DaVinci Resolve Studio 19.1. This release is available at no charge for existing customers from our support web site.

Thank you for your response.

Sit tight and wait, correct?

I was under the impression that outside downloads and installs are not recommended. Only pacman installs should be done. Is this still the case?

There is no official support for either AUR packages or 3rd party proprietary packages

Only pacman installs should be done

pacman does not work for building AUR packages but pamac should work when package is updated

Sorry for the confusion. This is NOT a fresh install. Upgrade through pamac only.

Update above. I meant pamac.

It’s your system and you’re free to do whatever you want with it.
Using the AUR is unsupported - on Arch and even more so on Manjaro stable.

This would be weird.
Probably the downloaded file (and therefore the checksum) changed between your two attempted installs.
You can try to pull the created package file from the successful build on your HP Z840 (from package cache) and transfer+install it on your HP Z820.

I’m confused. Several have said using the AUR is unsupported. What does that mean? Who posts the updates to Pamac then?

Is a better option to download from Blackmagic, uninstall current installed version, then reinstall new version? I have had luck upgrading through Pamac for almost 5 years now. I started with DRS 15.

For software that is unsupported, it sure is rock solid.

Regards,

Gerry

In a nutshell:

  • AUR packages may not build or even work on your system
  • the build instructions are provided by other users (which you probably don’t know and need to trust to not mess anything up or worse)
  • you cannot expect anyone to fix AUR package problems if/when they arise

Please read the Arch wiki entry for further info:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Arch_User_Repository

Nobody posts updates, apparently you set pamac up to fetch updates for AUR.

Pamac can be used as a package manager (similar to pacman) for managing packages from Manjaro repositories, but can also build AUR packages (similar to AUR helpers yay or paru)

Update announcements include a warning about AUR packages
