Has anyone updated DRS to 18.1.1 by downloading the installer from the Blackmagic website? Any issues? Will future auto updates be impacted by doing so? I would like to test 1811 this holiday season before 2023.

Yes. Anything you install by way of a third-party installer is not registered in your package manager database and may cause problems with shared libraries in the future.
