Creative Soundblaster AE-5 (non-Plus Version) 5.1 Soundproblem (Centerbox)

Hello,
i have a sporadic problem with my Soundcard, while Headphones works perfectly, i got Centerbox from my 5.1 System sometimes working and sometimes muted. Sometimes i boot into Windows and switch to Linux and the Centerbox gets reactivated, but sometimes not.

Other days i first time boot (cold boot) my PC up and straight into Manjaro and everything works like intended.

My Alsamixer settings are saved into a file that i manually restore when i switch between Headphones and 5.1 Sound.

If someone knew a workaround that i don’t have to switch to Windows and restart my PC all the time,
that would be really nice… Thanks in advance.

Nah thats not the case, i have Hybernation disabled and Fast Boot/Startup in Windows/Bios is also disabled, i don’t see any relations with the samples that you link here.

This guys has other problems, i use 3.5mm jack for Headphones and they are always working perfectly fine, no matter what. And im using 3x3.5mm jack for my 5.1 Sound and only the Center Box is muted sometimes, that means Quadro channel is still doing his job.

The hybrid hibernation is the only thing I know of in Windows to cause a problem with dual booting
There may be other things in there creating the problem that I do not know of

Does this system have the latest BIOS version?

I suggest you try the latest v5.14 kernel

To try and find the core of the problem I suggest you get ALSA data for the working state

sudo alsa-info.sh

And get data for the non-working state when it happens again

Then use meld to compare the 2 data sets.
There will be a lot of false positives from all the timestamps but it should reveal any differences for the centre channel or amplifier/mixer connections within the audio codec

I also suggest you try this as a possible workaround to get the channel back

sudo alsactl nrestore

to restore and rescan audio devices

Today it happend again, after the first (cold) PC start right into Manjaro, the Centerbox was muted. So i collected the required infos with your command and uploaded it to alsa.

working:

I also try’d your workaround but without any success, the Centerbox was still muted.

I have no clue how to compare or where to look inside this logs, would be nice, if you could take a look at this stuff, if you can find the time.

Thank you for putting effort into this case. I don’t have the time to work together with the developer within github, to bad there is no email adresse showed up.

I hope your workaround can temporary solve this problem without endless PC reboots, alone a workaround solution means alot to me, i will report back.
