Creative Soundblaster AE-5 no longer detected (no sound) under KDE Sound device

My Linux is running for almost 3 years now and i cant remember when i last time adjusted something in the KDE Sound Device Manager (besides Volume control, that was always working).

Today i was using my 5.1 sound reciever and i had no sound on the centerbox (i had this little hassles with a temporary muted centerbox here and there), so i quick decided to open the KDE Sound Device Manager and only saw Line Output (i think thats my onboard sound, but not sure) and switched from Dual Stereo to 5.1 and this was a big failure, because somehow my creative soundcard is no longer in this menue (but was working because somehow there was a invisible link to my Creative still there) but it was still working… i just ignored that menue for a long time and only adjusted my settings in Alsa, if i needed.

How ever, my Creative Soundcard AE5 is dead silence now… and it doesnt matter what i changed in alsamixer… i could biet me in the ass for adjusting the Line Output device.

I had working sound till the moment i played with the Pacu menue or how ever that called.

I have no clue how i can fix this and to get my soundcard working again please help,
im thinking now to switching Kernels from 5.15 to 6.01 LTS, 6.01 is the LTS right?

Or maybe i rollback my full system with timeshift? Or can i just replace a few config files, to restore my old PACU settings?

Lucky i had a timeshift snapshot from 2 days ago and now i have working sound again…
I let this stupid control Panel untouched… but god help me if i had to fresh reinstall my Manjaro (KDE) or if someone with the same creative model wants to switch from Windows to Manjaro KDE.

I dont get it what is KDE doing, why destroying soundcard support that was already implemented/working -.-

Btw. Pavu Volume control still works flawless.

I also just remember my Creative was listed as “Sound Blaster Recon3D” in the past in Pavu Control Center.

Edit: Does it make sense to report this bug to KDE or is it timewaste?

Hmm all that links dont really helping me, i never try to experimental samplerate adjustments or something like that.

I have my own alsamixer adjustments, that i can change when i open alsamixer in terminal but besides this changes, i never used some special commands.

I saved my alsamixer profiles (bash scrips, where i switch between headphones and 5.1) that are maybe 2 years old:

well i’m not sure what caused your issue but have you tried to test
a) upgrade to a newer kernel
b) testing if your card is detected with a live-iso
both tests are worth a try.

But i could try to boot into a live-iso, i was thinking about that too… but still that wont fix my issue :frowning:

in fact, but it might give you some ideas what might be the problem by comparing the differences between your system and the live-iso settings. it’s very hard to figure out those problems and comparing 2 different systems can give first steps how to recognize issues.

Simplest way to to clear any user changes for PulseAudio:
Go to pavucontrol Configuration tab (pavucontrol -t 5) and set all card profiles to Off
this will trigger PulseAudio to clean user settings databases in ~/.config/pulse/
Then change card profiles back to preferred profile
(this tip was originally posted in old forum by PhilM)

If pavucontrol is not installed, delete user databases and cookie and restart PulseAudio

rm ~/.config/pulse/*.tdb ~/.config/pulse/cookie; systemctl --user restart pulseaudio

every controller is known to be broken regarding the wake-up timing. It wakes up a few samples before actually processing the data on the buffer. This caused a lot of problems, for example, with ALSA dmix or JACK. Since 2.6.27 kernel, the driver puts an artificial delay to the wake up timing. This delay is controlled via bdl_pos_adj option.

When bdl_pos_adj is a negative value (as default), it’s assigned to an appropriate value depending on the controller chip. For Intel chips, it’d be 1 while it’d be 32 for others. Usually this works. Only in case it doesn’t work and you get warning messages, you should change this parameter to other values.

This relates to a really old Bugzilla report with a different error message
11398 – hda_intel: IRQ timing workaround is activated for card #0. Suggest a bigger bdl_pos_adj.
but it might stop BDL journal messages
