Core dump problems after update 2023-12-22

Hi all! After updates yesterday (2023-12-22) on Testing branche, I have many system problems. The system is still stable and usable, but many applications seem not to work anymore.

Some of the problems

  • System sound is not working, also missing the volume slider in my gnome menu. Headphone jack is still working.
  • Firefox is not working properly.
  • Many apps don’t start and display a segmentation error or bus error when trying to initiate in terminal. These apps are for example: gnome-calendar, electron22, geary, gimp, etc.

When checking journalctl I see a long list of coredumps of many processes, please check the whole log here: dec 23 20:03:35 deimos kernel: Linux version 6.6.8-2-MANJARO (builduser@fv-az913 - Pastebin.com

Not sure of this is a bug other people are experiencing as well or just something on my system. If someone is able to help, it is highly appreciated!

It would be easier if you could post

inxi -Fza

and post the relevant lines from /var/log/pacman.log.

Also try to specify the issues you face, exactly with corresponding error messages.

Thanks for the reply!

Here is the output of inxi -Fza:

And here are the lines from /var/log/pacman.log. I’m not 100% sure whether the problems started after the updates on 2023-12-21 or 2023-12-22, so I added both. See [2023-12-21T13:29:02+0100] [PAMAC] synchronizing package lists[2023-12-21T13:2 - Pastebin.com

A bit more specific about the issues I’m facing: most programs that are affected just don’t start. For example, in the terminal (errors unfortunately are in Dutch):

[sander@deimos ~]$ gimp
Segmentatiefout (geheugendump gemaakt)

[sander@deimos ~]$ electron22
Busfout (geheugendump gemaakt)

[sander@deimos ~]$ gnome-calendar
Busfout (geheugendump gemaakt)

Firefox does start, but it crashes its tab as soon as I load any page, and it shows me the standard firefox “Gah. Your tab just crashed.” error page. In the terminal I see this error at the moment the tab crashes:

[Parent 8974, IPC I/O Parent] WARNING: process 9245 exited on signal 7: file /build/firefox/src/firefox-121.0/ipc/chromium/src/base/process_util_posix.cc:265

If any other data or info is needed, just let me know and I’ll post it here!

If that is core dump then see the following for gathering more info

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Core_dump

I dont see any removals.

But I do notice kernel-alive, which I would warn against … suggesting kernel-modules-hook instead.

Also another hook looked odd to me

[2023-12-21T13:36:03+0100] [ALPM-SCRIPTLET] voltooid

I cant find any mention of ‘voltooid’ in the Repos/AUR.
