Hi all, i’m running Manjaro with XFCE and X11. I need to run a few android apps, so i installed Weston and have been running them there (its way smoother, faster, and lighter than an android emulator!) However, i often need to copy/paste between applications running on the x11 XFCE desktop and those running in Weston. I’m at a loss for how to do so.
Ideally, i’d love for them to share a clipboard, so if i copied in one, i could immediately paste to the other, but open to any workarounds! Is anyone able to help? Thank you!!!
I do not think you can natively copy between x11 and wayland container. So i guess the only way will be to treat the waydroid as a real phone and use some kind of over-the-network copy app.
Should be even better, have not tried it personally, i use KDEconnect, which may be a little unwilling around firewalls but generally works.
If you already have an Android device you can run the apps on, scrcpy may be a better option. It displays a fully-interactive copy of your device onscreen and automatically shares clipboards between the two.
Ok, this is very validating, thanks @Teo . I’ll look into these over-the-network copy apps and will post back here once i have something working.
@beermad thanks for the thought, that’s a great idea. Unfortunately, i’m trying to keep this app off of my android device. But if i ever get a second one that can live in a drawer, i’ll try this out! Appreciate the suggestion!
Just posting a follow up for anyone who is curious. It turns out that my main need to copy/paste things between x11 and the Wayland container was to use Google Translate on chunks of text in various alphabets. Soooooo instead of learning about over-network clipboard managers (which sound great, just out of my wheelhouse) i just downloaded the Google Translate app in the Wayland container. XD Sorry to not return here with a comprehensive review of over-network clipboards, i went with the less-learning-intensive option. Appreciate you all!
