So I just installed the Majaro-i3 yesterday and upon booting up the machine this morning, the Conky desktop system monitor and keyboard shortcut reference sheet is gone. Most of the info I can find on Conky is about people wanting to get rid of it, but I actually like the look. I only installed a few applications yesterday: Firejail, Brave, Kate, LibreOffice, and Wordgrinder.
Did have some trouble installing Wordgrinder. Had to install from CLI, because the Package UI Manager said the package didn’t exist. So I don’t know what’s going on with that. Works just fine though.
I did do a full desktop integration of Firejail first thing and I’m thinking that’s what’s causing the problem. When I try to launch an instance of conky from the terminal it throws this error message:
[jpbaiocchi@bruiser ~]$ start_conky_solarized Reading profile /etc/firejail/conky.profile Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-common.inc Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-devel.inc Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-exec.inc Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-interpreters.inc Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-passwdmgr.inc Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-programs.inc Reading profile /etc/firejail/disable-xdg.inc Reading profile /etc/firejail/whitelist-usr-share-common.inc Parent pid 1934, child pid 1935 Warning: /sbin directory link was not blacklisted Warning: /usr/sbin directory link was not blacklisted Child process initialized in 151.33 ms conky: cannot open /usr/share/conky/conky1.10_shortcuts_solarized: No such file or directory Parent is shutting down, bye...
So I cd’d to the conky subdirectory in /usr… and the file is right there:
[jpbaiocchi@bruiser ~]$ cd /usr/share/conky [jpbaiocchi@bruiser conky]$ ls -al total 60 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Oct 19 10:59 . drwxr-xr-x 199 root root 4096 Oct 28 17:50 .. -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 950 May 7 2018 conky1.10_shortcuts_green -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 950 May 7 2018 conky1.10_shortcuts_grey -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1011 May 7 2018 conky1.10_shortcuts_maia -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 993 May 7 2018 conky1.10_shortcuts_solarized -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2077 May 7 2018 conky_green -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2077 May 7 2018 conky_grey -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2099 May 7 2018 conky_maia -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1024 May 7 2018 conky_shortcuts_live_green -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1024 May 7 2018 conky_shortcuts_live_grey -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1094 May 7 2018 conky_shortcuts_live_maia -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1067 May 7 2018 conky_shortcuts_live_solarized -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2120 May 7 2018 conky_solarized
Clearly the file exists, but I’m guessing Firejail is making it inaccessible. Can anyone tell me what the /sbin directory is and why Firejail thinks it needs to be blacklisted? Thank you.
Oh and fyi, I also did have some trouble configuring the time properly. Took me about an hour to realize that while my timezone was correct, I had local time set to Mexico City, which ends DST about a week before the US. So I switched it to Chicago. Didn’t install anything for that, just repeated attempts to try and sync the time.
