Computer unexpectedly freezes

I have had problems with my computer for a while. I originally ran Windows 11 when the problems began, then i switched Manjaro with I3. So i cant really know if the problem is with Manjaro or my hardware. One of my attempts at fixing these unexpected freezes was updating my BIOS and that seemed to help a bit but it did not solve my problem. That is the only attempt at fixing the problem that yielded noticeable results. Some of the things i have done, include try different RAM sticks, remount all my hardware, I have checked that all my thermals are stable, I have tried identifying patterns to the freezing but I can’t, I tried changing the kernel with no result. I have tried to understand the journalctl log but i don’t really understand it, so my searching attempts have not been very help full.

When my computer freezes it does not respond to any input and to shut it down i have to force shut it down by holding down the power button for a few seconds. Sometimes i can move my mouse for a few seconds before it freezes but i cant click anything, I can only move the cursor.

Here is the result of the inxi -v7azy:

Even while the cause is unknown, this can help prevent further damage

Gentle shut down a suddenly hanged PC to minimize a chance of getting a broken filesystem and data loss:

Thanks, I will use this, and many it will improve something’s.

just to be clear, this behaviour happened on both windows and linux ? that’s what i understand from here.

Yes that is correct.

The link unfortunately did not work for me, but I found [HowTo] reboot / turn off your frozen computer: REISUB/REISUO which I think might have a similar message. I tried to restart the system using REISUB and REISUO. But it did not work, it is still frozen.

bad contact of the cpu ? release the cpu holder and reconnect the cpu. might be a possible failure.

also check

sudo dmesg

you can redirect it to a file with

sudo dmesg > dmesginfo.txt

any suspicious error-messages inside dmesg ?

I have tried remounting the CPU once before but I could try it again.
When i run sudo dmesg I’m not entirely sure of what to look for but something that looks suspicious to me is:

ACPI Error: Aborting method \_SB.PCI0.GPP2.PTXH.RHUB.POT5._PLD due to previous error (AE_AML_UNINITIALIZED_ELEMENT) (20220331/psparse-529)

Which i see a a lot of scattered about in the log.
But there is this aswell:

nvidia-gpu 0000:09:00.3: i2c timeout error e0000000
ucsi_ccg 0-0008: i2c_transfer failed -110
ucsi_ccg 0-0008: ucsi_ccg_init failed - -110

But this only appeared once.
I have no idea what these error means, but maybe they tell you something.

no need, you already checked it.

  • Create a new file with the command: echo "blacklist i2c_nvidia_gpu" > /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist_i2c-nvidia-gpu.conf. This command uses the echo function to output the text “blacklist i2c_nvidia_gpu” and the > operator to redirect this output to the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist_i2c-nvidia-gpu.conf. If the file does not exist, it will be created.
  • After creating the file, run the command sudo update-initramfs -u. This command updates the initial ramdisk for preloading drivers. This ensures that the changes you made take effect.

Source:
https://devicetests.com/fix-nvidia-gpu-i2c-timeout-error-ucsi-ccg-initialization-failed-ubuntu

in the end nothing to worry about, it’s not related to your problem.

This strongly suggests looking for the problem in the

  • hardware or
  • BIOS

Thanks for the help! I will try to check for faulty hardware.
