Clipboard, plz paste the last thing i copied into you

Hello!

Suddenly and without any wrongdoing on my part of course, my clipboard no longer behaves the way it used to.
I copy text (with ctrl+c) and images (with the xfce screenshoter) into the clipboard a lot and when i ctrl+v i want it to paste the last thing i copied into it.
But to my complete surprise it now always pastes the text. To paste the image i have to select it in the xfce clipboard manager and then ctrl+v. If i then copy a new image into the clipboard it will again only paste the text until i select the new image from the clipboard manager.
If i close the xfce clipboard manager i can no longer paste images from the clipboard, so it does not seem to be an issue with the clipboard manager itself.
Is this something that can be configured somewhere? Maybe there are other keyboard-shortcuts i’m not aware of.

Thx for any advice!

Have you tried right-clicking the widget and seeing if there is an option to configure it?

Disclaimer: I myself am not using Xfce — I use Plasma instead.

There seems to be, or have been, a similar issue with Plasma, i.e. pasting the previous contents of the clipboard instead of the latest.

Also, copy and paste doesn’t work correctly in e.g. Skype, from, for example, Spectacle. One has to save the image, copy it via the file manager (in this case Dolphin) then paste it into Skype.

Sorry not much help here, just worth noting. I’ll be looking into this, I’m sure.

Is it possible that containerised apps have some difficulty with clipboard access? I’ve not noticed it myself, as I rarely use them.

Maybe worth consideration. :man_shrugging:

I’m not sure skypeforlinux is one. It does have a strange way of interacting with right-clicks, though; it takes over. Also the audio feed, if I’m using the headset, gets switched to “muffle mode” and I have to switch it back via System Settings →Sound.

What I have on this system:

Manjaro is a rolling-release distribution, so change is inevitable, and unavoidable

Manjaro Xfce includes xfce4-clipman-plugin to manage clipboard history

Xfce has good online documentation for packages - Clipman - xfce4-clipman-plugin

If the package maintainer has changed how the package functions it should be mentioned in the changelog - gitlab.xfce.org - NEWS - xfce4-clipman-plugin · GitLab

But the changelog shows package was last updated 7 months ago - v1.6.6 released (2024-02-29)
So any recent change in behaviour is more likely to be from changes to user settings

I suggest check the Actions tab in xfce4-clipman-settings to see if there are any custom actions configured for image files or text files
