Cinnamon 5 crashes when starting applications in full screen

Hello,

I am on the stable branch.
Since updating to Cinnamon 5, the desktop environment crashes when trying to open applications that start in full screen (e.g. games - I have tested multiple different ones). The mouse cursor starts to twitch and the Taskbar, Alt+Tab, Menu etc. become unresponsive. Depending on the application, it either crashes or freezes. If it freezes, the only way I have found to close it is switching to TTY and killing the process. In either case, I get a message dialogue that informs me that I am in fallback mode and prompts me to restart Cinnamon after the application is closed. Cinnamon continues to work normally after restarting it using that dialogue.

Opening applications in windowed mode and then switching to full screen works in most cases. Starting them in full screen mode in a different DE also works without any problems.

When starting the applications using the terminal, I get the following error message:

Error Message
X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
Major opcode of failed request: 40 (X_TranslateCoords)
Resource id in failed request: 0x340062f
Serial number of failed request: 3424
Current serial number in output stream: 3424

The values of the serial numbers and resource id vary, the rest does not

My Cinnamon version is 5.0.4, I am using Kernel 5.13.1-3-Manjaro and Nvidia driver version 470.42.01, but I also had these errors occur on Kernel 5.10 and using Nvidia driver version 465.xx

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

Please read this:

Then file a bug upstream…

:crossed_fingers:

ME4595 filed the bug report upstream this morning. He was able to pinpoint which commit to muffin is associated with the issue. As such, he does not sound as much as a N00b to me.

I think this is a first because normally people come back with:

Where should I file that?

if I don’t provide a direct link…
