Chromium Based Browsers are Slow (Hardware Acceleration)?

The chromium based browsers on my system seem to have slowed down a lot after the 2022-11-02 update. On my system, this is Brave and chromium, both display almost the exact same rather serious UI latency when opening and closing tabs, and general internet navigation, especially Youtube videos which lag like crazy.

Speed test from the CLI comes in strong at ~180MB/s Down / 7 MB/s Up. Ditto when run from the browser. I suspect some kind of cache issue or some other bug, but have no confirmation.

Why have the browsers slowed down so much? Firefox is uneffected on my system.

Issue is not Kernel related, I restarted on a seperate LTS kernel and still have the same issue.

EDIT 0:

Running with --no-gpu increases speed by a lot on Chrome, manually disabling hardware acceleration in the Brave settings menu similarly improved performance by a large margin.

You are running two Graphics devices (and maybe an USB camera), six monitors and maybe six audio devices at the same time, if you want to find the reason for the performance loss you should start with a minimal configuration and add a device at a time to see when the lagging starts.

One graphics card is just for the displays, as far as I know if really doesn’t do any computations.
Only one audio device runs at a time, the rest are just for “If I need it” use.

I can’t really schedule removing the graphics cards and restarting with my current time schedule to see what works.

Did you mean 2022-11-02?

Please see:

This is it touching nothing:

Is hardware acceleration already enabled, but is in a buggy state?

Kind of strange, before the update it worked just fine. I wonder what changed behind the scenes :woman_shrugging:

Mostly no. Why else would I have created the tutorial?
