Changing screen refresh rate breaks internet?

Hi,
I’m usually able to figure out problems using google but this one is so strange i don’t even know where to start…
I have a 2560x1440 HP X27q monitor. It supports 165Hz but if i change the refresh rate to anything over 120Hz my internet breaks… WTF?

When i watch journalct -p 3 -f i see this message when on high refresh rates:

Can we assume your system is fully synced to a current up-to-date mirror?

Your network casting errors does not relate to your refresh rate as you appear to be using pcie graphics. It is merely coincidence.

Microcode is the code embedded in your hardware - I don’t know if is even remotely possible for enduser to flash new firmware into a wifi card.

The GPU likely supports it - what about your display cable?

The only common denominator is RAM - perhaps runing memtest+ on your system to exclude memory errors.

Yes, the system is up to date but i do get this warning.

sudo pacman -Syu  ✔  16s 

warning: manjaro-hello: local (0.7.0-6) is newer than extra (0.7.0-5)
 there is nothing to do

I don’t think manjaro-hello is causing the problem though :stuck_out_tongue:

I ran ran memtest86+ and it says it passes.

My WiFi card is a PCIE card so that’s probably where the relation is coming from. The card has display port 1.4a so its defensively a supported resolution. A standard display port cable should support HBR2 transmission, which supports 1440p 144Hz so everything should work. Maybe its just a poor quality/bad cable then? :man_shrugging: Ill get a DS8k cable from micro center tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks

The 8K Display Port cable fixed the problem. Thanks for the help and insight into the microcode error.
