Can't install Cadence, conflict between pulseaudio and pipewire pulse

After a fresh install of Manjaro KDE I installed Timeshift, Octopi, then tried to install Cadence and got this error, had the same thing with another Arch-based distro a couple of days ago and wasn’t able to resolve it

:: pulseaudio-17.0+r98+gb096704c0-1 and pipewire-pulse-1:1.6.8-1 are in conflict. Remove pipewire-pulse? [y/N]

Typing a y then hitting Enter doesn’t remove pipewire-pulse, just loops back around to the same error

Pulseaudio 17.0+r98 wasn’t installed though lib32-libpulse 17.0+r98 was, I removed that and got the same error

A quick check shows:

which pulseaudio
pulseaudio not found

I found that libpulse 17.+r98 is installed, but if I try removing that another 427 packages would also be removed

Pulseaudio-qt version 1.8.1.1 is also installed, not sure if that’s also part of the issue or not

Any ideas on what I might be able to do to get round this?

I’ve done some searching on it, seems to be fairly common, a couple of results where people were able to resolve it but their solutions didn’t work for me or their scenario was slightly different such as one guy getting it when running sudo pacman -Syu

The upstream Cadence repo was archived a few years ago and hasn’t seen a release in about 4 years.

The cadence package along with celt, jack and jack_capture were dropped from the repos to the AUR a couple years ago. The dependencies may need to be updated to avoid the conflicts you’re seeing, I’m not sure.

From the developer’s GitHub page:

So, you might need to investigate the replacements mentioned above to use instead of cadence.

Thanks for the replies guys

Been a while since I did audio stuff on linux, didn’t realise cadence was pretty much deprecated now
