Can't get Manjaro to see and use the correct GPU - Somehow Solved

I am wanting to end up passing through my 3080 and use my 1070 for Manjaro to use. So far with a few installs I have not been successful in getting Manjaro Settings Manager to recognize it.
In Manjaro Settings Manager it is listed as “Unknown device name (nVidia Corporation)” and has the “video-nvidia” driver installed. Also the 1070 shows up in NVIDIA Settings, but the 3080 does not.
The monitor Manjaro is outputing to is attached to the 3080 and the other monitor/tv is attached to the 1070. so the display output is somehow mixed up too. I don;t know how to correct it.
Provided is the output from lspci -nnk and mhwd

Have you installed a virtual machine ?

Hi @Sichvot, and welcome!

:bangbang: Here’s a tip: :bangbang:

To provide terminal output, copy the text you wish to share, and paste it here, surrounded by three (3) backticks, a.k.a grave accents. Like this:

```
pasted text
```

Or three (3) tilde signs, like this:

~~~
pasted text
~~~

This will just cause it to be rendered like this:

Portaest sed
elementum
cursus nisl nisi
hendrerit ac quis
sit
adipiscing
tortor sit leo commodo.

Instead of like this:

Portaest sed elementum cursus nisl nisi hendrerit ac quis sit adipiscing tortor sit leo commodo.

Alternatively, paste the text you wish to format as terminal output, select all pasted text, and click the </> button on the taskbar. This will indent the whole pasted section with one TAB, causing it to render the same way as descrribed above.

Thereby improving legibility and making it much easier for those trying to be of assistance.

Please edit your post accordingly.

Similar, if not the same, issue here, but with AMD.
Haven’t manage to make it work.

Check my troubleshooting, hopefully one of us finds a solution and share it.

I have not installed the VM yet on this installation, because, if I create the VM and pass the 3080 to the VM I can no longer see the login screen to enter the password, I’d have to crtl alt f2 to get a TTY terminal which again appears on the monitor attached to the 3080 and I can;t get the 1070 to display continuously from that it shuts off after entering LVM password. last output on the correct monitor is

Enter passphrase for hd1,gpt2 (8cb3772b-e40c-4bf1-9caa-9a92a99d762b):
Attempting to decrypt master key...
Slot 0 opened

The step forward is it’s still getting that signal to display that instead of dropping signal completely and shutting off.

Thank you,
I was trying to figure out how to make it easier to ready when I was posting it.
This makes it look much better :slight_smile:

OK, I think I figured it out for now… Here’s what I did, maybe I didn;t have to do all these steps. sudo nvidia-settings would not make the necessary changes and Manjaro settings manager still not seeing the 3080 card correctly.

  1. Re-installed Manjaro again with proprietary drivers because I messed up my install again trying things.
  2. Ran sudo nvidia-xconfig
  3. Edit the /etc/xorg.conf it generates changing each monitor and GPU from device 0 to 1 or 1 or 0
  4. Copy that xorg.conf to /etc/X11/mhwd.d/nvidia.conf and /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-mhwd.conf
    reboot.
    the new thing to figure out is how to resize the login screen, it no longer fit properly to the 1920x1080 default tv res. it’s still on the 2560x1440 monitor res.

Thank you everyone for helping this far, maybe my solution will work for someone else.

Login screen seems to have decided to fix it’s self over time for some reason. rest of passing through and setting up vm went rather smooth after this. :slight_smile:
