Can't connect wifi

Hi everyone I am a noib in manjaro so please do not use concepts that a chils will not understand. The problem is that recently while I was on the browser my laptop got frozen I wait for a while and nothing happened so I forced a shutdown pressing the power off button after that y restarted the laptop and I found that I was umable to connect to the wifi. Any idea why? Is there a way to restore the network? Is there any command for activate wifi again or check if it is worling?. I really appreciate your help thanks

Hi @MRBomberman,
I could be able to help you whether you can give me some useful information from your system. It is not so hard to learn how to do it, the only way to post the information is reading how to do it well. I think you should understand after the reading.
How to provide good information - #39 by Fabby

You could also try to run the following terminal commands and put the output here( between three backticks )

inxi -Fazy
rfkill list all
journalctl -f -t NetworkManager
dmesg | grepNetworkManager

Maybe, the only problem is that you have to reinstall the wifi driver.

Hope this help, regards

How do I reinstall the drivers?

Normally you don’t re-install the drivers as they are built into the kernel.

Please read this:

and then provide the information @j8a is asking.

Hi @MRBomberman ,
You have a kernel linux58 installed that is not longer supported and maybe it is the only problem you have. Linux58 is EOL ( no more support )
You also have a Qualcom Atheros QCA9565 wifi adapter installed.
Could you try to install another kernel, for example linux510 or linux54?
Try to add the linux54 kernel from the following terminal command.

sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux54

You can also install this from the status notification bar in the top right desktop of your XFCE Manjaro environment. You can recognize this bar because is an inverted triangle.

Then, reboot and in the grub menu choose the linux54 kernel on boot.
I assume you have the grub menu installed.

After you’ve verified the 5.4 Kernel works, I also suggest you to remove the linux58 kernel and install another LTS kernel in the case you have problems with the linux54 kernel. It is recommended by the Manjaro Team to keep two kernels installed because it is a good practice in the rolling release model.

Then you should install another kernel with the terminal command:

sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux510

And only then should you try to remove the linux58 kernel from the terminal with:

sudo mhwd-kernel -r linux58

Since I have no access to internet I cannot download that kernel from my laptop, I put the commands that you said, and then says: Error: Please make sure if the given kernel(s) exist(s).

Please also read this:

  • Use your phone’s USB tethering
  • Go to a cybercafé / friend / family member and ask for an Ethernet cable and hook that up to your Ethernet port.

Unfortunately we cannot help you without any Internet connectivity.

:scream:

That’s the thing that I want to ssolve my internet conection, but I need internet connection in orderto solve my internet connection. And I also connected an ethernet cable but it does not work either

What i did then is that i tried downloading the kernel from kernel.org and i found the steps to build it but it is required to use the command “make“ but it says “make: command not found“, is there anyway for me to download “make“ from another device and then copy to my laptop and installed from tjere. Please help me i will really appreciate it

Go to Settings- Manjaro Settings Manager-Kernel and install the kernel from there. You really want the Manjaro kernel in this case. Alternatively. you can get the kernel as j8a suggested in his post above.

Please read again " How to Provide good information" as inxi output in text format is the preferred way on this forum. How to provide good information

update.
i am finally able to connect internet via my cellphone with usb internet thetering.
i put inxy -Fazy and it shows:

Hi @MRBomberman ,
Well, you have the problem almost solved.
Could you try the following commands under the terminal:
This is necessary to update the mirrors in order to download the correct and as fast as you could from the repositories.
sudo pacman-mirrors -f10

This command for installing the new kernel.
sudo pacman -Sy linux54 linux54-headers

I personally suggest to run
sudo pacman -Syyu
before the last command but as you are using your phone it will be painful because the upgrades are huge.

Hope this help, regards

i use the comand sudo pacman -syu i took like 3 hours but the kernel got updated:

i rebooted the system but still i am unable to use wifi or ethernet.
if i use inxi -fazy i got;

Hi @MRBomberman,
You did a great job!

Please ensure your wifi connection is not block running this command
rfkill list all
The output in my computer, which is similar to yours shows:

0: phy0: Wireless LAN
        Soft blocked: no
        Hard blocked: no
1: hci0: Bluetooth
        Soft blocked: no
        Hard blocked: no

None either the wifi or the bluethoot adapter are blocked in my computer.
Then, put the output with your text in the answer. Whether you see something blocked you could run the following terminal command:

rfkill list all

Maybe you could solve the problem so easy.

The other outputs I needed in order to see what is working wrong are these two from the terminal command are the following:
journalctl -f -t NetworkManager
dmesg | grep NetworkManager

Hi, do you have a FN key which enables and disables the wifi?
If the answer is yes try to turn the wifi off and on and see whether the icon of the network manager can see your internet ssid.

Also try to run
systemctl status NetworkManager
and
lspci -k
post the result here.

You are very close !!
