Can't change brightness of screen. Neither from keyboard, nor from GUI (in Windows it works)

On the same computer, on Windows, it is configurable from GUI and keyboard.

Generally, I feel that the current percent of brightness is about 50%.

I’ve reached this page. It is surely not applicable to my situation till the Udev rule section. After that I tested the light package from AUR.

First:

─❯ ls /sys/class/backlight/

Second:

─❯ light -L

I don’t want to blindly try things, I am sure it is about the hardware. I’ve seen other similar posts but they are old.

In most cases it’s a problem of the used graphics driver

Do you see the setting for brightness in task tray or via energy manager? Or is it grayed out?

image

It is there but

image

There is no brightness slider, just the night light setting option that can be enabled.

I just use mouse wheel.

It’s not functioning in my situation.

You are using the Open driver, correct?

Have you tried the propriatary one?

I have a 2070 in my Notebook. Gnome, wayland. 570.144 propriatary driver. And this setup works fantastic.

No additional AUR driver or whatever. Just plain nvidia stuff.

But for this you need the scroll bar for brightness visible. Doesn’t seem to be the case for him.

Yes.

No.

I use a laptop with Plasma, Wayland.

Output of neofetch:

To try the proprietary driver, what packages should I install and for each please specify the source (AUR or official repositories)? How to make sure I don’t get an unbootable system after installing the proprietary driver?

Thank you.

  1. Open /etc/default/grub
  2. In the line starting with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT,
Add acpi_backlight=native at the end inside the " "
  3. Save the file and run sudo update-grub then reboot.

I don’t use any nvidia-aur software, and I would recommend to uninstall any AUR nvidia part first.
Reboot
Then use “Manjaro Settings Manager” to change the NVIDIA Driver in the hardware section to use the propriatary ones
Reboot

This did not function.

This, and selecting from the login screen Wayland instead of X11, made it function. Thank you.
