Can't boot Manjaro via other linux distribution's grub

Hi,
I have latest 21.2.6 xfce Manjaro on the multiboot system with a dozen other linux distributions. My installation and boot is UEFI one. When I boot Manjaro via its own grub - it boots perfectly fine. I can also boot Manjaro via MX Linux grub. But the problem is that my main linux system is Linux mint and I want to use Mint’s grub. And I have problems booting Manjaro with Mint’s grub:/ Booting starts, I select Manjaro from menu and everything stops right away with a kernel panic and message “Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)” What am I missing, how can I fix this issue? Thanks.

Use Manjaro Boot loader instead as it can boot all other Linux distributions.

Hello @schasch Sure, you can do that. Normally the UEFI searches for specific efi partitions on all local drives and there is no limit. You can have one efi partition for each OS, if you like. Beside that, it ensures, that no OS change or overwrite efi files of other OS’s if each OS has its own efi partition. Well, if you are greedy, you can use the efi partition of windows.

If you installed the other distro after Manjaro, then that distro’s GRUB is the one you’re currently using. However, it has to be Manjaro’s GRUB that needs to be in control. Issue the following commands (from within Manjaro)… sudo grub-install --recheck --modules="part_gpt part_dos" sudo update-grub

Do linux distros like manjaro and mint play well with dual-booting?

They can be multiboot friendly if you know what you are doing. Many distros have difficulty detecting Manjaro, but Manjaro can detect most other distros, so use Manjaros grub for dual booting. Alternatively let every distro have their own grub and use rEFInd to switch between them at boot.

Thanks for your answers and sorry for not doing extensive search by myself:( Solution in Mint forums has helped. But it strange for me, that update-grub command is not able to generate correct cfg file if it is know issue.
