Cannot boot Manjaro: "Timed out waiting for device /dev/disk/by-uuid/D191-05DB"

My Manjaro currently boots to the following screen:

A bit of history: I tried to install Fedora next to Manjaro and it went badly. Its installer is weird, and couldn’t configure it properly to use the existing /boot/efi partition, so I ended up erasing it. As a result, Manjaro was unbootable.
I went through the procedure described in the Wiki to restore the bootloader, using a live USB.
Trying to manjaro-chroot -a , I got the following error message, containing the exact device name in the above screen shot:

[manjaro manjaro]# manjaro-chroot -a
grub-probe: error: cannot find a GRUB drive for /dev/sdb1. Check your device.map.
grub-probe: error: cannot find a GRUB drive for /dev/sdb1. Check your device.map.
==> Mounting (ManjaroLinux) [/dev/sda2]
 --> mount: [/mnt]
 --> mount: [/mnt/boot/efi]
mount: /mnt/boot/efi: special device /dev/disk/by-uuid/D191-05DB does not exist.

[manjaro /]# grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=/boot/efi --bootloader-id=manjaro --recheck
Installing for x86_64-efi platform.
grub-install: error: /boot/efi doesn't look like an EFI partition.

I couldn’t figure out what it meant, so I did the manual chroot as per the Wiki page. This worked, and I could reinstall Grub.
Reboot, now this.
I do get a command line, the journal looks like this (first 50 lines):

So, any idea why it wants that device, and where I might find it? :roll_eyes:

boot into live usb and post:

sudo efibootmgr -v
sudo lsblk -f

and if you are using btrfs the command sudo manjaro-chroot -a wont work… also you need a manjaro live usb for the command to work

Your UUID has changed fstab wants Di91-05DB and the partition is A21D-966B.
sudo nano /etc/fstab and change the former to the later and then sudo update-grub.

You will probably need a live cd or usb then chroot -a first

@robin0800, are you sure?
That’s a partition on the live usb. My SSD is /dev/sda.
Maybe this one?

sda1 vfat     FAT16                             EC5E-9DE5

OK but thats still not what fstab is looking for.

Then what is it looking for?

Di91-05DB see the screenshot

Fixed it!
replaced D191-05DB with EC5E-9DE5 in /etc/fstab, re-installed and updated Grub. No need to chroot in order to edit /etc/fstab though. I justed mounted the installed Manjaro’s file system inside the live system.
Boots again! :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m going to mark this post as the solution, since the actual one:

contains an error.
Thanks @brahma, thanks @robin0800 !
