Can I access BIOS without my LUKS passphrase?

Hi,

I installed a fresh Manjaro on my Dell XPS 13 with full disk encryption.
When I start my laptop, it directly asks my Luks passphrase and boot to KDE.

  • Question 1 :
I did not succeed to access to the BIOS/EFI configuration without typing the Luks passphrase. I have to type my passphrase first and press ESC to access EFI configuration. It looks dangerous… If I lost my passphrase, I cannot reinstall a new OS. Is it normal ?

  • Question 2 :
Sometime, booting is not working. It stay loading with message “DELL / Manjaro”. I have to CTRL+ALT+SUPPR to restart . Any idea why ?

Hi and welcome to the Forum :+1:

It helps to read your computer’s User Manual…

How to access the BIOS or UEFI

  1. Turn on the computer.
  2. At the Dell logo screen, press the F2 key several times until you enter the BIOS or System Setup.
