Built-in Webcam not found

I have the need todo some videoconferencing. In my Laptop there is a webcam built-in. But none of the apps can found it. Most time i get the message: Cannot open video device /dev/video0: No such file or directory

Either the hardware is unsupported or it is disabled by firmware setting or hardware switch.

Ensure the device is enabled (firmware or hardware) then copy and paste the textual output from the command

Also the textual output from the command

I will try to boot to the bios, maybe something is disabled there. But i cant believe that, because it was working on Windows 10.

There is no detected camera - that means the camera is offline - if the kernel cannot see it then it is not there - I know - physically it is but kernel wise it is not.

Works in Windows is no guarantee it works with Linux - that said - perhaps the camera can only be turned on by a Windows software - so check and ensure it is turned on - then reboot into Linux and recheck the outputs.

As your system firmware dates back to March 2018 - one would think it had been added.

There is really nothing I can say to cheer you up - it must be really rare or perhaps faulty.

Try the hardware switch either FnF6 or just F6

If using the Fn hotkeys to enable/disable doesn’t work under Manjaro, there’s another route to investigate.

While booted into Windows, is there any way you can get the information about the integrated webcam hardware?

You might be able to find it under the Device Manager or Devices section of your Control Panel or Settings.

It might not even be a uvcvideo compatible webcam.

It seems to work now. After booting to Windows, i could enable the cam via FnF6 as suggested. After that, i could boot to Linux and the cam works there to. I could disable the cam again, by pressing FnF6 again, but enabling again as not possible in Linux. But after pressing FnF6 several time, it seems to enable the cam no also on Linux. Don’t know, why this isn’t working every time. But that’s not a big issue.

Many thx for all your help.

I know it’s marked as solved, but for the sake of future readers and internet searches, are you now able to provide the output (while in Linux) of this webcam’s information using the commands above again?

Sure. lsusb:
