Build stable iso with plasma-login-manager

I tried to use the official iso-profiles (https://gitlab.manjaro.org/profiles-and-settings/iso-profiles) to build a KDE ISO image with some extra packages (mainly ZFS-related packages and stress-ng). In my recent build, I’m interested in replacing SDDM with plama-login-manager, so what I did is:

  1. comment out sddm and sddm-kcm and add plama-login-manager in manjaro/kde/Packages-Desktop
  2. Under desktop-overlay, change every sddm-relevant files to plasmalogin (e.g., etc/sddm.conf.d to etc/plamalogin.conf.d, etc)
  3. In profile.conf, change displaymanager argument from sddm to plasmalogin, make the line to displaymanager="plasmalogin"
  4. Build the ISO with buildiso -p kde -f -b stable -k linux618

The ISO was successfully built, and I can boot into the live environment with plasma-login-manager as the greeter. However, I’m not able to autologin, even though the autologin argument was not touched (autologin=“true” by default).

Although I can still log in using “manjaro” as the password, I’m still wondering what other measures I need to take to make autologin work for the KDE ISO?

Unofficially - I have managed to get the plasma login manager to work with a live ISO by adding configurations in the live-overlay filesystem.

First remove the symlink to live-overlay - then copy <iso-profiles>/shared/manjaro/live-overlay to your own working profile.

live-overlay/etc/plasmalogin.conf.d/autologin.conf

[Autologin]
User=manjaro
Session=plasma.desktop

live-overlay/etc/pam.d/plasmalogin

#%PAM-1.0
auth sufficient pam_succeed_if.so user ingroup wheel
auth       include      system-login
account    include      system-login
session    include      system-login
password   include      system-login

Auto login can be achieved in calamares at the time of the install, on the Details page.

Thanks for your reply. I use the live environment for troubleshooting, though.

@linux-aarhus

Thanks for the workaround. I’m also curious about what script buildiso uses to create the config file for autologin. It seems that it detects the displaymanager argument and the username from the config file and created the autologin for all other display manager (at least for sddm) but not for plasma-login-manager, which is weird because the only difference is the folder name (sddm.conf.d to plasmalogin.conf.d).
