Browsers will not show the MitID QR code

NEW user to Manjaro.

MitID is the national digital ID for Denmark, used by residents to access digital services from both the public and private sectors.

we use it for safe login to our bank, and many public sectors. I cannot make it work, tried firefox and google chrome with Manjaro, but it will not show the barcode that the app on the phone afterwards needs to scan to access bank, taxes etc. etc.

Anyone from Denmark, or in fact anyone solved this?

Does it work if you change the user agent to Windows. Something along the lines of:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:145.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/145.0

@linux-aarhus is from Denmark.

One have to know the system a bit to debug it. A wild guess: such external codes are often generated in popups from other domains (at least that is how visa, mastercard and revolut work). Maybe it is the adblocker blocking the external domain? Did you try disabling it?

I have used firefox, vivaldi and chromium - assume google chrome work as well - and there is no issues generating the qr-code.

The qr-code is generated by the server - and displayed as an image. I have never had any issues with the qr-code.

Indeed  there is no popup windows involved - in fact it is a reasonably secure concept.

  1. you need to know your userid
  2. you need an app
  3. the app has validated your identity beforehand
    • entering your SSN
    • scanning the Danish passport’s id page with your phone
    • the passport photo is validated electronically when the passport is issued
    • using NFC to read the chip inside
    • using face recognition with the camera to match the photo on record
  4. only then the app is activated
  5. when you are required to verify your identity
    • provide your userid
  6. open the app and wait for the push request
    • then you verify your identity in app with a pin or biometrics (fingerprint, face recognition)
    • then you scan the qr-code displayed
    • then you swipe in the app to acknowledge the request

Then you have identified yourself and you are redirected to the requesting party’s content pages whether that is your mobile provider or IRS (SKAT) or municipality.
