Brother Printer acting like everything is a printer bomb - MFC-L2710DW

I am using the Brother MFC-L2710DW and when I go to print something all that comes out is blank papers until it runs out of paper. I am using it over the network because my cord isn’t long enough to reach my computer.

I have tried printing to PDF and it works just fine, everything is up to date.

I am using the “Brother MFC-L2710DW series” driver

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

Please read this:

and post some more information so we can see what’s really going on. Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…

  1. An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information… (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
  2. An lpstat -l -p szPrinterName where szPrintername is obviously the name of your printer would help as well.

:+1:

P.S. If you enter a bit more details in your profile, we can also see which Desktop Environment you’re using, which CPU/GPU you have, …

I forgot to mention that I had no issue scanning documents from that printer onto my desktop.
I did have my desktop environment and CPU in my profile (I forgot which GPU I have and I didn’t have access to the box it came in when I setup the profile).

  1. That one is EOL: Please upgrade to 5.4 LTS (Long Time support) or 5.10 which is an LTS candidate.

(But that will not get rid of your printer problem, so do that last)

  2. Go to printer settings, click that printer, click configure and tell me which printer driver you’re using and where you got it from. (As I’m on KDE and you’re on Gnome, I can’t give you exact screenshots nor exact steps to take)

  3. You have an AMD Ellesmere [Radeon RX 470/480/570/570X/580/580X/590] GPU as per your inxi. :+1:

I have the same symptom: printing from the PC will result in an endless loop of empty pages.

I’ve built the package brother-mfc-l2710dw (version 4.0.0-1) with pamac and set up the printer with the GUI with the lpd protocol as mentioned in CUPS/Printer-specific problems - ArchWiki.

My inxi output:
