Booting issues. Stuck on a black screen. Optimus laptop

Issue is present on all kernels, EXCEPT 5.4.

Either a reboot, either a cold boot will get stuck on a black screen forcing me to shut down my laptop by long-pressing the power button. On a third try I can usually reach the log in screen, but it sometimes takes 5-6 force shutdowns.

I’ve tried everything I came across on the numerous threads on this topic on the old forum and on this one.

I’ve tried several variants of acpi_osi kernel parameters, as suggested in another thread, but nothing worked.

Anything else I can try?

Hi, you post the journal of the current successful boot log, nothing to see there.

Have you read the stable update workarounds and solutions for display issues?

To get some advice, post the log of the previous tries:

journalctl --priority=err --boot=-1 for the one before the current one
journalctl --priority=err --boot=-2 one more in the past.

If it is a long log use:
[details=“Summary”]
```
past your log here
```
[/details]

Remember to wrap the paste in tripple-backticks. (```)

Can you switch to a TTY by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F4? What happens if you run startx there? Can you get the Xorg log for when this happens?

Have you tried what happens if you switch to (e.g.) tty4, and then back to tty1 after a couple seconds? I cannot see anything wrong in the Xorg log.

I have tried this, yes.

It’s the only way I can actually login.

But this is a best case scenario. Usually it’s a series of 3-6 force-shutdowns before I can even switch to a tty, other than tty, than back to tty1 so I can login.

hi,

i’m new to this forum and i write you from france (sorry if faults happen)
I’m using manjaro with a asus rog fx553vd (officially gl553vd, but i wonder if the same), and have similar black screen issue (but often i can have login screen after one or maximum two reboots)
i will try ctrl+alt+f4 trick when i encounter again and tell you
