Boot problem (UEFI) after update, kernel problem, installation problem

New computer (UEFI boot). First update at Feb. 23 2021 successfull.

Today after updating Manjaro didn’t boot. I had to restore from rsync backup.

Kernel is 5.9.16-1-MANJARO

After restore I added kernel 5.4 and kernel 5.10 by manjaro-settings-manager. Both grub menu entries were not able to boot!

Does Manjaro handle UEFI boot correctly? (At first installation I made partitioning manually according to Hard disk Partitioning During Manjaro setup | Atanas Rusev, after boot there were no boot entries in UEFI BIOS. I had to reinstall and choose the automatic partitioning, which led to successful boot. But I had to repartition with gdisk and resize rootfs and add extra partitions manually)

I’m aware that Secure Boot for UEFI must be turned off. Have you tried this?

Secure Boot is off.

Kernel 5.9 is bootable.

Why is initramfs-5.10 smaller than initramfs-5.9. Are there things missing, e.g. modules?

can you boot with USB iso manjaro ( live )
open a terminal and a browser on this topic

inxi -Fza
sudo manjaro-chroot -a
mhwd-kernel -li
ls /etc/mkinitcpio.d/*.preset
pacman-mirrors -c all
pacman -Sy
mhwd-kernel -i linux54
mhwd-kernel -i linux511
mhwd-kernel -r linux59
pacman -Syyu
exit ( end chroot )

then reboot and press ESC to see Grub appears
choose linux511 or 5.4

I made it. But I couldn’t boot with any of the menu entries. So had to restore the system again.

Then I called “pacman -Syyu”, which ran without any error messages.

In fact I misinterpreted the UEFI BIOS entries and deleted the “keys” today, but it doesn’t change anything.

I tried mkinitcpio -P and even the booting entry failed.

Having made boot output visible there I saw this on the screen:

Failed to execute /init (error -2)

end Kernel panic - not syncing: no working init found. Try passing init= option to the kernel. See Linux Documentation …

mkinitcpio.d]# cat linux59.preset

Please please wrap your all of your outputs with ``` before and after your output. Your outputs are all very hard to read atm.

Thanks!

Sorry, sorry!

I have a new suspicion: An installation script for an external device (printer, card reader …), that was made for another linux distribution, destroyed some symbolic links in the /usr path and changed them to empty (or almost empty) directories. I will analyze it and inform you.

After I had restored the symlink “/usr/lib64 → lib” everything works. Update, new kernel and reboot ok.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION!
