Bluetooth "The setup of the Jabra Elite 65T has failed"

On my Thinkpad X230T, I’ve been trying to add a Bluetooth headset.

I’ve been trying with a Jabra Elite 65T. The Add Bluetooth Device finds the headset, but then I get the message …

The setup of the Jabra Elite 65T has failed

This Thinkpad is setup with multiboot. When I boot into Kubuntu 20.04 , the headset pairing works.

I had also previously tried setting up an Aftershokz OpenConnect headset on this system. That didn’t work, and I didn’t test that on Kubuntu.

Following another thread at Unable to connect to any device via bluetooth, Manjaro 18 XFCE - Newbie Corner - Manjaro Linux Forum , I can provide some more information.

I’ve also been looking at “[SOLVED] Bluetooth connect failed: br-connection-profile-unavailable.]([SOLVED] Bluetooth connect failed: br-connection-profile-unavailable. / Newbie Corner / Arch Linux Forums)” , and so can provide some other information.

Also from that thread, I tried the suggestion by cowsquad to add …

So the configuration that got rid of the br-connection-profile-unavailable was to add the following line to my /etc/pulse/default.pa

# LDAC Standard Quality
load-module module-bluetooth-discover a2dp_config="ldac_eqmid=sq"

… that unfortunately didn’t make any difference, after a reboot.

I would welcome any other suggestions that the more experienced could offer!

Here is the rest of the system information.

Not sure this helps … I would suggest to read this Bluetooth headset - ArchWiki and see there is a difference when connecting the headset via pipewire vs pulseaudio

@bogdancovaciu Thanks for the pointer to Bluetooth headset - ArchWiki .

It says:

PipeWire acts as a drop-in replacement for PulseAudio and offers an easy way to set up Bluetooth headsets. It includes out-of-the-box support for A2DP sink profiles using SBC/SBC-XQ, AptX, LDAC or AAC codecs, and HFP/HSP.

Install pipewire-pulse (which replaces pulseaudio and pulseaudio-bluetooth).

Unfortunately, trying to install pipewire-pulse with Pamac runs into an issue:

could not satisfy dependencies:

  • removing pulseaudio breaks dependency ‘pulseaudio=15.0-4’ required by pulseaudio-equalizer

I found What is the correct way to install package “manjaro-pipewire”? - #22 by kI3RO that suggests …

yay -Rs manjaro-pulse pulseaudio pulseaudio-alsa pulseaudio-equalizer pulseaudio-jack pulseaudio-lirc pulseaudio-rtp pulseaudio-zeroconf pulseaudio-bluetooth pulseaudio-ctl sof-firmware

… but that gives a result of …

error: target not found: sof-firmware
→ exit status 1

Omiting the sof-firmware gives …

checking dependencies…
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: removing pulseaudio breaks dependency ‘pulseaudio’ required by bluejeans
:: removing pulseaudio breaks dependency ‘pulseaudio’ required by plasma-pa
→ exit status 1

Could you please suggest a way to install install pipewire-pulse ? Thanks.

Please do not remove packages, there is no need for that.
You simply run:
pamac install manjaro-pipewire

Hmmm … no joy!

Using pamac, I tried installing manjaro-pipewire. This led to a message:

could not satisfy dependencies:

  • removing pulseaudio breaks dependency ‘pulseaudio=15.0-4’ required by pulseaudio-equalizer

Working my way down the dependencies, I removed each package until I could get to the level of removing manjaro-pulse and pulseaudio.

I then installed manjaro-pipewire and manjaro-bluetooth. I rebooted the computer.

Unfortunately, in trying to set up the headset, I got the same message:

The setup of the Jabra Elite 65T has failed

Repeating some of the previous diagnostics …
