Bluetooth headphone - connects fine, no sound output device

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently switched from Ubuntu to Manjaro, and so far, I’m enjoying the transition. However, I’m a at a bit of a loss when it comes to connecting my bluetooth headphones, Bose QuietComfort 35 II.

The first step, connecting, seems to go rather well. I tried using GNOME’s GUI and bluetoothctl, and both are able to connect to my headphones - which also knows a connection has happened by telling me so. Additionally, the bluetooth menu lists the correct name and also that it’s a sound device.

However, the sound still comes from my normal speakers. I tried switching the output to the headphones, but neither GNOME’s output nor pavucontrol lists any output devices that are related to my headphones, and so it seems that PulseAudio doesn’t recognise my headphones as audio devices. And yet, the bluetooth menu and bluetoothctl specifically list it as such.

I’ve already tried searching for it online, but so far, it seems everyone is able to find their device under pavucontrol. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

EDIT: Too hasty - now while my headphones are connected.

This fixed it!

I already found that link myself but dismissed it as it was talking about sound dropping out after a while, while my didn’t connect in the first place. However, applying the steps and then rebooting correctly shows my headphones as an output device.

I guess it’s a wise lesson to try a tutorial even if it doesn’t match your problem to the letter…
